In order to meet our client’s requirements, our galvalume steel has been tested by SGS. The quality assurance specialists from SGS came to our factory to get samples and then tested the samples. Below are parts of the SGS test report for clients from Germany.
As shown above, the common types of GL steel include galvalume coil, galvalume corrugated sheet, and galvalume plain sheet. Thanks to its shiny spangled appearance, GL steel can be used as exterior panels without a layer of paint. We offers GL steel of 0.12-2.0 mm in thickness and 600-1500 mm in width. Besides, the weight of the GL steel coil and the length of the flat sheet can be customized on the basis of your needs. Please talk to us for more details.
There are various thicknesses of galvalume sheet metal. The galvalume coating thickness is expressed by AZ+number. According to ASTM A792 Standard, AZ50 galvalume means 0.50 ounces of aluminum zinc coating per square foot (double sides); AZ150 indicates the Al-Zn coating weight of 1.5 ounces per square foot double sides. Yu Shun metal material offers AZ30 to AZ150 galvalume finish.
Generally, the higher the number, the thicker the Al-Zn coating. Coating thickness greatly affects the protective effect to the substrate. That is, the thicker the coating, the better the durability. Therefore, AZ150 will be more durable and more expensive than AZ50.
Due to the different densities of zinc and aluzinc coatings, AZ50 is not the same as G50. The thickness of G50 galvanized steel is 10.6 μm per side. While the Al-Zn layer thickness of AZ50 is about 20 μm per side. That’s why AZ50 will be more long-lasting and expensive than G50. Below is a picture for your reference.
Note: 1 mil, thou = 25.4 μm
Corrosion resistance is the main advantage of galvalume steel. The Al-Zn coating of galvalume steel can protect the base metal. When the coating surface is damaged, the Al-Zn alloy layer will form a dense aluminum oxide layer to prevent the base metal from further corrosion.
It is proved that GL steel will serve 3 times longer than GI steel does. That’s why GL steel is preferred in severe environments.
Galvalume steel has good weather resistance and can resist the erosion of climate environments such as atmospheric pollution, bad weather, and ultraviolet rays. It can maintain long-term stable use under these climatic conditions.
Aluzinc steel has strong heat resistance and is not prone to oxidation reactions at higher temperatures. It can withstand temperatures above 300 degrees Celsius and is often used in chimney pipes, oven lighting, and lampshades.
The thermal reflectivity of GL is twice of galvanized steel so it is often used as a heat-insulating material. Therefore, it is a better choice for roofing in a hot climate.
The surface of GL steel is smooth and with spangles, which makes it good-looking. So it can be used directly without painting.
1. Construction Industry: Used to make roofs, interior and exterior wall panels, insulation boards, soundproof walls, roof tiles, roof trusses, wall insulation boards, doors and windows, pipes, garages, etc.
2. Automobile Industry: Used to make car bodies, mufflers, exhaust pipes, wiper accessories, fuel tanks, chassis, brakes, interior decoration and other parts.
3. Home Appliances: Used to produce the outer shell and internal structural parts of products such as refrigerator back panels, washing machines, air conditioners, microwave ovens, LED backlights, electric cabinets, electric water heaters, etc.
4. Agricultural Uses: Used to build agricultural greenhouses, greenhouses, granaries, pig pens, chicken houses, etc.
5. Other Industries: such as heat exchangers, dryers, containers, solar trays, etc.
Definitely, yes. GL sheet is light in weight but strong enough, which is a new kind of roofing material. Also, due to its high thermal reflectivity, GL roofing sheet is preferred in hot climates. Moreover, it has a gorgeous and smooth appearance so it is widely used in commercial, civil, and public buildings.
Galvalume steel is similar to galvanized steel. It uses cold-rolled steel sheet as a substrate and then is coated with 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon at 600 °C. While galvalume coating aims to protect steel from oxidation. Due to the protection of aluminum, it is better able to resist rusting and corrosion. If the coating thicknesses of GL steel and GI steel are equal, the GL one will be more long-lasting to use in the same environment. The common manufacturing process is known as the hot-dipping process. Let’s review step by step.
1. Pre-treatment
Through the pre-treatment system, the contaminants on the surface of the base metal will be removed. It often includes degreasing, rinsing, pickling, etc.
2. Hot-dip Galvalume Process
After going through the annealing furnace, steel sheets are dipped into the Al-Zn pool. Then there is an air knife to remove the extra coating to keep the thickness of the coating.
3. Inspection & Coiling
The coated steel sheet will go through the quality control system and then be rolled up for sale.
So the structure of Galvalume steel includes:

The bare galvalume sheet is silver-white in color, with regular spangles. It looks not bright and shiny as a galvanized sheet, but its surface is more smooth. You can check the pictures below.
As for corrosion resistance, galvalume is better than galvanized steel. GI and GL steel are very similar. Both of them are coated to protect the base metal from rust. The coating allows metal panels to last decades longer than non-coated metal.
However, in terms of the price, the galvalume sheet price will be higher than that of galvanized sheet.
Generally speaking, galvalume steel will be more expensive. For example, for the same specification, AZ50 galvalume steel will be more expensive than G50 galvanized steel. But GL steel also has a longer service life. Moreover, the price is also influenced by other factors, such as the thickness, width, packaging, etc. And they are suitable for different environments. Ga (gauge) is commonly used to describe the thickness of metal sheets or wires. In general, the higher the number, the thinner the sheet. For example, a 24 gauge GL sheet is about 0.7 mm in thickness; while a 26 gauge galvalume sheet is about 0.55 mm in thickness. And a 29 gauge galvalume steel sheet is about 0.45 mm in thickness. You can check the gauge chart below.

The service life of Al-Zn steel is about 40-60 years. Actually, it mainly depends on the thickness of the galvalume coating, as well as the use environment. When galvalume roofing is installed in the right environment, they are able to last decades.
Galvalume steel has strong corrosion resistance. But galvalume steel is actually a kind of iron steel. So it will rust finally when the protective coating is broken. It often rusts from the cut edge. Because the galvalume coating is made with less zinc, the anodic protection is poor. When a certain point of the GL sheet is corroded, the rusted area will spread over the entire surface.
Of course. The galvalume coating has great adhesion, which makes it easy to paint. You can paint it with different colors for decorative or aesthetic purposes, like PPGL steel.
In comparison, the galvalume sheet price will be higher than that of GI sheets. It is because of its great properties. Besides, the number of galvalume sheet manufacturers is less. Commonly, the price starts from $ 800 per ton. And the galvalume coil price keeps rising in recent months. Please contact us for the latest price.
Galvalume steel is a kind of superior material, especially for roofing and wall system. It is also ideally suitable for furniture, home appliances, automobile industry. Thanks to its wide applications and good workability, the galvalume coil is great to invest in.
Yu Shun metal material has galvalume coils in stock and also the monthly production can reach up to 100,000 tons to shorten the delivery period. While for end users, you can choose plain or corrugated galvalume sheets of different sizes and designs. Welcome to contact us for details!
